Konechi looks at how your Mac is connected and puts a mark in the menu bar. That's the whole app. It has no server, no analytics, and no account.

What it reads

Konechi asks macOS which network route is currently active and what the interfaces on the machine are called, which is enough to tell Ethernet from Wi-Fi and to show the name of the connection. It reads configuration, not traffic — it does not see, log, or touch anything you send or receive.

Nothing leaves the Mac

What it reads is used to draw a mark in the menu bar and is not stored, collected, or uploaded. There is nowhere for it to be uploaded to.

Update checks go to GitHub

Konechi checks for a new version once when it starts, not on a timer. The check fetches a small file from its GitHub Releases page, so GitHub sees the request the way it sees any download, including your IP address. It is a plain file download and carries nothing about your network.

No analytics, ever

There is no crash reporting, no usage tracking, no unique identifier, and no third-party SDK of any kind in the app.

You can check all of this

Konechi is open source under the MIT license, so none of the above has to be taken on trust. Read the source, or open an issue if something looks wrong.

Changes

If a future version starts doing something new with your data, this page gets updated before that version ships.
